Dramatic Presentation
If you are interested in the history of New Market, but feel you cannot walk the town, please book the one-act, one-woman show "Angel of the Shenandoah" performed by Susan Smith, media and resource librarian for Shenandoah County Schools.
"Angel of the Shenandoah" is a dramatic portrayal of the life and times of Jessie Rupert, Union sympathizer in the Confederate town of New Market. Susan Mathias Smith, premier interpreter of Mrs. Rupert, presents an educational and emotional portrayal of this stalwart, principled and controversial woman who would not forgo her beliefs in order to comply with her neighbors. Each presentation lasts approximately 30-40 minutes and can be presented for your civic club, your church, school, or in a private home. Contact New Market Walking Tours or the Apple Blossom Inn (540-740-3747) to discuss fees and to schedule Ms. Smith's presentation.
